Subject: Sand and Sandbags
All,
The likelihood that property owners will have water drainage problems around their homes is higher than normal this year due to heavy snow cover. If your municipality is considering the need for supplying sand and polypropylene sandbags to residents this Spring, a few sources for materials are listed below.
Please note that there are other suppliers and we are not recommending one over another:
Washed Sand
Stelter, Inc., Bloomer; $5.60/cu. yard ($4/ton) plus $150 delivery charge.
Chippewa County Highway Department; $300/15.5 cu. yard (22 ton) load. Price includes delivery.
NOTE: Orders should be placed by Wed., March 13th.
Empty Poly Sand Bags
Warner Packaging, 4020 Corporate Ave., Plover, Wisconsin; 15 cents/bag plus shipping (contact Rob Caldwell; Rob.Caldwell@warnerpackaging.
715-341-8563. Bags can be picked up or delivered.
Jacobs Bag Company, 8090 Excelsior Blvd., Hopkins, MN; 15 ½ cents/bag plus shipping (their shipping costs appear to be somewhat higher than Warner Packaging, but bags can also be picked up at the Minneapolis warehouse [40 million in stock]). (contact: Robert Blake; robert.blake@jacobsbagcorp.com
Cell: 612 670-9889).
The County Highway Department will not be able to haul sand later this Spring due to weight restrictions on the road from their pit. Contact the Highway Department by March 13th to ensure delivery.
Chippewa County has a small cache of sandbags available for residents if they stop down to the Sheriff’s Department. If residents need more than 25 to 50 bags, however, they will be charged replacement cost ($.20 each). Chippewa County has also made available a centrally-located supply of sand for county residents who wish to fill sandbags. This supply is located at Anson Town Shop, 10740 County Hwy K (at the intersection of 107th Ave./108th Ave. and County Hwy K).
Thank you,
