Storm Damage Cleanup Plan for Day 3 – Friday 9/27

A lot more was accomplished today in this disaster recovery operation.  Over 300 volunteers showed up and huge thanks goes out to Elk Mound School District for providing busing as this allowed vehicles/equipment going to and from the brush site and recycling center to move more efficiently.

As we look to start DAY 3 on FRIDAY 9/27 we will not be taking volunteers due to Emergency Management Services doing a full door to door assessment.  If residents need stuff this is the pefect opportunity to let them know what is needed so we can even better coordinate our volunteer efforts on Saturday and Sunday.   Please remember you can also call 211 and report your needs.

Here are a couple quick tidbits.

1.)  If you want to help on Friday 9/27 you are certainly welcome just make contact with residents and help.  There will be no sign in through the Wheaton Fire Station or arm bands due to fire personnel and Emergency Management Services assessing individual needs.

2.)  Kids under 18 are able to volunteer there just needs to be an adult chaperon.  This is for kids safety!

3.)  The temporary brush site for clean wood will continue to operate with the Township loader assisting with unloading and piling.

4.)  The recycling center will be open for storm debris scattered in the surrounding area.  Recycling Center is located at 2429 20th Street Elk Mound.

5.)  Please DO NOT push your debris into the road right-a-ways and roads.  Crews are working hard to keep the roads open and have been working on the road right-of-ways.

6.)  Any personal items found can be brought to the Wheaton Fire Station where lost and found will be started.  Items will be cataloged and we will be posting updates to Town of Wheaton website.

Lastly, I know people are running on fumes please take a deep breath.  We’ll get through this disaster together.  Remember Wheaton is one “Big Family” and everyone is trying to do their best.
