OPENING OF THE CHIPPEWA COUNTY LAND CONSERVATION & FOREST MANAGEMENT WHEATON WATER REFILL STATION
The Chippewa County Land Conservation & Forest Management (LCFM) Department would like to announce the opening of the Town of Wheaton Water Refill Station. Please join us on Wednesday, November 6th at 1 pm at 3900 38th Street, Elk Mound, WI 54739 (back parking lot of the Wheaton Fire Station).
In 2022, Chippewa County LCFM dedicated ARPA funds to find a way to provide safe drinking water to County residents with private well tests exceeding the 10 ppm health standards for Nitrates. An Ad Hoc Committee, made up of experts and researchers across the State, met several times in 2023 to discuss a solution to remediation for this issue. The group focused on current public wells that had a history of water tests showing the safety and stability of their groundwater source in an area that has high risk for nitrates. Once these wells were located, LCFM worked with these municipalities to develop the Community Water Refill Stations.
Wheaton was the first of four towns to partner with Chippewa County LCFM on this water supply project. The additional three towns are Anson, Auburn and Lafayette.
On Wednesday November 6th at 1 pm, we will officially open the Wheaton Water Refill Station for the public to use.
