UPDATED Storm Damage Cleanup Plan for Day 4 & 5 – Saturday 9/28 and Sunday 9/29

Emergency Management Services assessment went really well today.  Plans are made and are ready to be set into motion for Saturday and Sunday.  We are hoping for an army of volunteers and want to keep things running as smoothly as possible.

The Wisconsin State DNR Forestry Division is assisting in the cleanup effort.  They have divided the affected areas into 3 zones.  Each zone has dedicated coordinators to make sure things keep moving forward.  The goal is to meet the needs of everybody (residents and volunteers) and tackle as much as possible.

Please remind people asking for assistance they can call 211.

Here are a couple quick tidbits.

PARKING/TRANSPORTATION

  • Designated vehicle parking areas are setup in Wheaton Park.  Please refer to the map below for parking areas.
  • Elk Mound School District has again stepped up to provide bus transportation from Wheaton Fire Station to the clean up locations.  THANK YOU MOUNDERS AND CONGRATS ON THE HOMECOMING WIN!! #MOUNDERPRIDE
  • There will be shuttle vans providing transportation from Wheaton Fire Station to the clean up locations.
  • PLEASE NOTE:  THE ROADS TO THE DAMAGE ZONE WILL HAVE RESTRICTED ACCESS.  USING THE DESIGNATED PARKING AREAS WILL HELP KEEP OUR ROADS OPEN FOR LARGE EQUIPMENT HAULING DEBRIS TO AND FROM THE BRUSH SITE. WE DO NOT WANT TO CREATE TRAFFIC JAMS OR UNSAFE SITUATIONS FOR OUR VOLUNTEERS AND RESIDENTS.

VOLUNTEER CHECK-IN/OUT

  • Volunteers with dump trucks, large dump trailers, track skid-steers are encouraged to arrive at 8:30 am for check-in at Wheaton Fire Station.
  • All other volunteers must check-in at the Wheaton Fire Station – starting at 9AM – to receive their arm band.  Important: when you are done for the day, please check out!  This helps ensure all volunteers are accounted for.
  • To speed up the check-in process, please bring your drivers license.  If you forget it or don’t have one you will not be turned away.  You will just need to fill out a separate form.
  • Volunteer safety is our top priority. Wear closed toed shoes, bright colored clothing, and required PPE. Gloves are highly recommended.
  • Kids under 18 are able to volunteer but they will need an adult chaperone.

BRUSH SITE

  • The temporary brush site for clean wood will continue to operate with the Township loader assisting with unloading and piling. It will be open into the evening hours, past dark if necessary, and will be illuminated by portable lighting.
  • PLEASE NOTE on the map above how we want vehicles/tractors with trailers and heavy equipment accessing the brush pile.
  • Further information will be made available (once finalized) on continued brush site operations.  We are fully aware there is a lot of debris still needing disposal.
  • Please DO NOT push your debris into the road right-of-ways and roads.  You can stage debris at the curb but please don’t push it back into the very areas we have already cleaned out.  Crews are working hard to keep the roads open and have been working on the road right-of-ways.

RECYCLING CENTER

  • The recycling center will be open for storm debris scattered in the surrounding area.  Recycling Center is located at 2429 20th Street Elk Mound.

PERSONAL ITEMS FOUND

  • Any personal items found can be brought to the Wheaton Fire Station where a lost and found has been started.  Items will be cataloged and we will be posting updates to the Town of Wheaton website.  (This is still under construction)
  • If you are missing personal items, you may check the lost and found.

 SPECIAL CLEANUP PROJECT UPDATE
